Fix Your Dried Out Brown Sugar
Posted 11/22/2006

A easy way to save that dried up box of Brown Sugar.

Don't you just hate it when you are ready to make that batch of cookies and you find that the brown sugar has dried out like a brick? Here is a easy way to fix it.

  1. Fold a paper towel into thirds or quarters.
  2. Dampen the towel with water (just damp, not dripping wet).
  3. Place it in the box or bag of sugar and seal it.
It's best to do this in a zip lock bag, but even the store box with a wax paper liner will work. Of course, if you had kept your brown sugar sealed in a zip lock bag it probably would not have dried out in the first place... note to self for the future! The brown sugar "brick" may soften up and become moist within hours, but certainly within a day or so.

Enjoy the cookies!

Hi Dean An apple slice (or 1/2 of an apple) put in with your brown sugar will also soften it up.
